Good way to introduce a few new pieces of end game gear sets as well as a break down system to remove "useless" unwanted items out of the game.
***Add a Break Down system to destroy unwanted or "useless" items.
You already have this in game with the Spirit Crystal NPC at Insurgo (-loc 576, 2958) where he breaks down Spirit Gear into Spirit Cystal.
It can be this NPC or multiple NPCs depending on tier of gear or Faction.
They break down into new materials like Shards for crafting and/or professions, as well as common items like black pearls, diamonds, strange orbs.
You might even find a rare recipe or 2.
**This also adds an economy for junk items.
Lets say you need to break down 5 vexar items for 10 Vexar Titanium Shards then people would have to trade around for trash propped Vexar Items people were going to end up selling to the merchant npc.
***Shards/Crystals could also be tradable and sellable in cons.
***Shards and Crystals could make new pieces of gear like the Void Magna Gear sets and weapons but new.
** You could also break down Runes for Rune Shards for crafting higher end runes (like ej said he wanted to do later).
Might need to raise Rune drops rate slightly so people start going there more often again.
Would Breaking Down Gear help the economy?

There is a lot of junk in the game that people try to sell all the time, which they want too much for because it's crap. Breaking down gear would be fine if there was a good reason to. When you get to lv65 everyone wants the same exact gear for that specific class. A better gear economy would be less ndnt high end gear and more variety that is actually worth using. You do need junk items which makes it harder to get the better high-end gear. You mentioned the Void set and most players don't do it, instead they save up for the better gear. You used to make more $$ when you sold gear than you go now. Guessing it was due to the lack of options that are worthwhile gold sinks. You have spirit skills, but you can get by without them. All this ties into the gear economy. Which means even with a breakdown system you need more gear sets that are worth using. When you leveled a lot slower the gear sets in-between actually matter but when you level up so quick they really don't, and you only focus on the end game gear. This is the issue that most looter games run into, is how do you implement it in a way that is worthwhile but going and finding gear is still worth it? You going to be able to make these new sets that will last you until you get that perfect end game gear set? If it's better than the current end game then why farm as much? You have some with accounts full of gear that would flood the cons.
What will this do to the wealth system? Right now it's pretty crap because it counts gear that you keep rather than gear that is actually usable. You get a vex hammer break it down, is it going to hit your wealth?

Wealth is overrated. If you break it down you use the gear.
